Hydrogen peroxide

General information

The use of hydrogen peroxide in food applications is particularly important due to its environmentally friendly properties. It decomposes into water and oxygen and leaves little or no residue and no dangerous by-products.
Hydrogen peroxide is therefore the most frequently used sterile agent for aseptic food filling due to its reliable disinfection effect, easy handling and low dry residues.
Our hydrogen peroxide grades are produced in Europe by the anthraquinone process.

Properties & advantages

Hydrogen peroxide, H202, is a clear water-like liquid. In contrast to water, H20, the molecule contains two oxygen atoms, one of which it likes to release again. This makes hydrogen peroxide a strong and at the same time environmentally friendly oxidizing agent.
Hydrogen peroxide has a cytotoxic effect and therefore disinfects microorganisms. This biocidal effect is used in the food industry in the form of a 35% solution in aseptic filling systems for the sterilisation of PET bottles, plastic containers and the typical multi-layer carton packaging.

Products & application

Numerous foods (beverages, milk, dairy products, sauces, soups) are now packaged aseptically in cartons, cups, bottles and films to improve shelf life and product quality. The packaging material is disinfected with 35 percent hydrogen peroxide before the respective food is filled. Depending on whether spray or bath technology is used in the aseptic packaging process, different types of hydrogen peroxide are required.

Hydrogen peroxide 35 % LQS - INTEROX® AG-Spray-35 - BELOX® 35 S-Spray - for spray technology
Hydrogen Peroxide 35 % LQB - INTEROX® AG-Bath-35 - BELOX® 35 B-Bath - for Bath Technology

On request, there are also combination types in spray and bath quality.
